Binaural Field Recording Rig

This complete binaural rig was created out of necessity. I needed a pair of electrets that could handle being out in the wild. My LOM mikroUši mics sounded great, but died within a few months because the cables were just too thin. Plus, most professional field recording gear is expensive and more affordable alternatives do not exist. Until now! Built to order.

Below is a sample recording using the “furry” binaural rig at Yellowstone National Park during a morning bison migration .

The binaural rig includes:

Stereo-matched pair of electret microphones (see specs below)
Preamp (see specs below)
Pair of nylon windscreens
Pair of faux fur “baby ball gag” windjammers
Pair of 3D-printed spherical windshields
Pair of official mini Rycote lyre shock mounts
Aluminum T-bar (with tripod mounting)
Binaural ear rig (3D-printed)
