Geophone

This geophone is sensitive (same specs as the classic LOM)! It can be used to record deep frequencies (earth rumbles, mechanical vibrations, glacial creaks) and also very minute and localized activity (like insects crawling in soil). It will even pick up nearby electromagnetic fields.
Below are two sample recordings using the Geophone. The first at a dormant volcano in Vestmannaeyjar Iceland. The deep “booms” that are heard are tiny pebbles being thrown as far away as possible from the mic and landing on the volcanic soil. The second recording is the Geophone stuck in the ground near the base of a small boulder in rural Michigan listening to underground soil activity.
The geophone rig includes:
- Geophone (carbon fiber enclosure)
-
Suction cup
-
Neodymium magnet
- Spike
-
Mini XLR to XLR cable
- Travel case
